Recently Google officially released  latest android OS called android Pie or android 9.0. Currently not available this Android P Digital Wellbeing feature for Pixel devices. This dashboard app helpful to how long you interact with your phone, select app & see time spend in different apps, how many times unlock your phone and notification you get and more. Also individually check app time spent and app usage. You can set app timer in android Pie 9.0 to limit usage of app.

How to set app timer on android Pie 9.0

Settings > Digital wellbeing > Dashboard > Any app > App timer > No timer / 15 minutes / 30 minutes / 1 hour / Custom timer

When you near the set time limit on android 9.0 Pie, you’ll see notifications on status bar “You’re close to your daily time limit“. Your app is paused since your app timer ran out.

Android Pie Do Not Disturb settings 

Android P “Shush gesture” is helpful to automatically turn on your device DND mode. When activate Do not disturb mode in your android phone, you can’t get any phone calls or messages. How to use YouTube’s take a break on android phone or tablet devices

In other Google’s digital wellbeing feature, you can schedule time to take a break on YouTube while watching movies or videos in your android or iOS devices. Also use your time watched profile to view how much time you spend on YouTube and as well as comparison with previous time you watched. Check out below settings for change time to take a break YouTube in android devices. Make sure YouTube app updated to latest version (13.17.55).

Step 1: Open YouTube app in your android device

By default Never set as take a break reminder.

Step 6: Choose from every 15/30/60/90/180 minutes options

After installed android P Beta on Google Pixel, Pixel 2 XL & other devices, you can see only date & time and battery percentage only (Show above screenshot). Let see how to add or get weather on lock screen and ambient display in android P 9.0 devices. To get weather in Ambient display on android P 9.0, uninstall Google updates in your device using below settings.

Step 1: Swipe down notification shade and tap Settings icon

Step 2: Tap Apps & notifications

Step 3: Tap See all apps

Step 4: Find Google app and open it

Step 5: Tap Three vertical dots (Menu) at upper right corner

Step 6: Tap Uninstall updates

You can see pop up message on screen: Replace this app with the factory version? All data will be removed.

Step 7: Tap OK

Now check in your android P ambient display, you can see weather appeared on lock screen and Ambient display. After uninstall updates, if weather disappeared on lock screen in android, update the Google app to latest version in your devices.

Step 1: Open Google Play store in your android P 9.0

How to Restrict Apps in Android Pie 9.0

First of all, find apps that consuming more battery and usage more data while running in the background. You can check data usage by apps in Android Pie 9.0 using battery settings. Let see step by step process to restrict apps to access data in Android Pie.

Step 1: Swipe down the notification shade from any screen and tap the Settings icon.

Step 2: Tap Battery.

Step 3: Tap Three vertical dots (Menu) at the upper right corner.

Step 4: Touch Advanced battery usage.

Now you can see app usage data since the full charge in your Android Pie 9.0 devices (Show below screenshot).

Step 5: Find the app usage more battery and open it.

Step 6: Tap Background restriction under Manage battery usage.

You can see a pop-up message: Restrict app?

Step 7: Tap Restrict.

Now this restricted app can’t use the battery in background and improve battery life in Android Pie 9.0 devices.

Step 8: To remove the restriction, tap Background restriction again.

Step 9:  Tap Remove.

How to Close Background Apps Android 9.0 Pie

What is lockdown mode in Android Pie? Here’s how to enable and use a lockdown mode in Android 9.0 Pie to unlock your phone using PIN or Password or Pattern lock only. You can find the Android 9 Pie lockdown feature under security and location settings. To add a lockdown option in the power menu, turn on the “Show Lockdown option” in your Android 9.0 devices. When enabling this feature, it’ll temporarily disable fingerprint scanner, all smart lock, and notifications on the lock screen. How to Use Lockdown in Android Pie 9.0

By default in the Android Pie power menu, you can see the Power off, Restart, screenshot, and Emergency options (Show above screenshot). Let see steps to add lockdown in the Android Pie 9.0 power menu.

Step 1: Swipe down the notification panel from the top of the screen and tap the Settings icon.

Step 2: Scroll down up to Security & location settings and open it in your device.

Step 3: Tap Lock screen preferences under the device security section.

Here you can see lock screen notification, add users from the lock screen, lock screen message, and “Show lockdown option”. By default turned off the lockdown option.

Step 4: Toggle on “Show lockdown option”.

Step 5: Tap the home button on your device.

Step 6: Now the long press power button.

You can see the “Lockdown” option added to your Android Pie power menu (Show below screenshot).

Step 7: Tap Lockdown.

Now your Android device is locked.

Step 8: Try to unlock your device with a fingerprint sensor.

You can’t unlock your device with a fingerprint. Now disable fingerprint sensor & other smart lock options and also can’t see notifications on the lock screen.

Step 9: To unlock your device, use Pattern lock or PIN or Password.

After unlocking your phone, you can use a fingerprint sensor to unlock your phone. Whenever you don’t want to use fingerprint or smart lock, activate lockdown mode in your Android Pie devices.

How to Enable and Use Android 10 Lockdown Mode

Settings > Display > Advanced > Lock screen display at the end of the page > Toggle on “Show lockdown option”

How to Enable and Use Ambient Display in Android Pie 9.0

You can enable/disable ambient display in Android Pie using display settings.

Step 1: Swipe down the notification panel from the top of the screen and tap the Settings icon.

Step 2: Tap Display.

Step 3: Tap Advanced.

Step 4: Scroll down at the end of the page and tap Ambient display.

Here you can see below given two settings for when to show notification, time and other info on lock screen in your Android Pie devices.

Double-tap to check phone

Double-tap your device lock screen to check time, notification and other information you receive. Enable it if you want to use this Android Pie ambient display feature.

Lift to check phone

When turning on the lift to check phone, just pick up your phone and you can see receive notifications, time, and other info on the lock screen and ambient display.

You can also see “New notification” (Show above screen)option. By default enable this option, so you can see notifications on the lock screen while you receive notifications in your android Pie 9.0.
