How to Set Metered WiFi Network on Android Oreo 8.1

Want to set WiFi to metered connection? Here’s how to set up a metered and unmetered Wi-Fi networks on Android Oreo 8.1. Metered networks are treated like mobile networks when background data is restricted. Apps may warn before using these networks for large downloads. You can set a Wi-Fi network as Metered/Automatic/Note metered (Unmetered) in your Android Oreo 8.0 & 8.1. You’ll find metered Wi-Fi networks under network & internet settings. All of your saved networks are automatically added to metered Wi-Fi networks. To set up metered wifi networks Android devices must turn on Wi-Fi on your phone.

Step 1: Open app drawer & Go to Settings in your Oreo.

Step 4: Scroll down up to the Wi-Fi section & tap on Network restriction.

Step 6: Choose Metered.

You can also see Automatic and Not metered or unmetered WiFi network. If not use then turn off the metered connection in your Android 8 Oreo devices.

When you saved any Wi-Fi network in your Android Oreo, Nougat & Marshmallow devices, it will automatically add to the Metered Wi-Fi networks list. You’ll see saved Wi-Fi network list in Oreo using below settings.

Step 1: Go to Settings in your Android Oreo.

Step 2: Tap on Network & internet settings.

Step 3: Tap on Wi-Fi.

Here you can see Wi-Fi preferences and saved networks.

A list of saved networks are view in your Android Oreo and other devices. Also add new network in your device. In the latest Android 10 devices, you can share wifi connection with other supported devices.

  1. I can’t find the restriction network tab after I enter to the data usage it only provide me with the applications usage no more.
    and I really need to set my Wi-Fi connection as metered
