To use this feature, enable connect to open networks in your android Oreo devices such as Google Pixel, Pixel XL, Nexus 6P/6, etc. To protect your device from an unknown network, your phone data transmitted through a secure VPN which is managed by Google.

Recently my Google Pixel device is getting officially OTA update and upgraded 7.1.2 to android 8.0 Oreo. This android Oreo includes Wi-Fi preferences, Wi-Fi assistant and other important network & internet settings. Here I will show you two tips, one is Turn on / Turn off WiFi assistant, and another turn on WiFi automatically on Android 8.0 Oreo.

Enable Google Pixel Wi-Fi Assistant On Android Oreo 8.0

Step 1: Go to settings in your android Oreo devices.

Step 2: Tap Network & Internet.

Here you can see various options including Wi-Fi, Mobile network, Wi-Fi and mobile Data usage, Hotspot & tethering, VPN and Aeroplane mode.

Step 3: Tap VPN.

Step 4: Tap the Wi-Fi assistant settings gear icon (Show above screenshot).

You will see always-on VPN and block connection without VPN (This option is disabled) options.

Step 5:  Enable always-on VPN to stay connected to the VPN at all times.

Now enable Google Pixel wifi assistant on android Oreo 8.0. You can edit the VPN profile in your android Oreo device using VPN settings. Enter name, type, server address, username, and password and create a VPN in your android device.

Turn On WiFi Automatically On Android Oreo 8.0

Step 1: Go to Settings.

Step 2: Tap Network & Internet.

Step 3: Tap Wi-Fi.

Step 4: Tap Wi-Fi preference.

Step 5: Toggle on connect to open network.

Now your device searches nearby public Wi-Fi and Turn on WiFi automatically on Nexus 6P/5X, Google Pixel/Pixel XL and other supported Oreo devices.

Delete VPN from android 8.0 Oreo

Settings > Network & Internet > VPN > Tap Wi-Fi assistant settings gear icon > Forget VPN (Show step 5 screenshot)

Other added new Wi-Fi feature in your Google Pixel 8.0 Oreo devices is automatically turn on Wi-Fi in Pixel. In Advanced Wi-Fi in Oreo, you can see keep Wi-Fi on during sleep, Network rating provider, Wi-Fi direct, MAC address, IP address, etc.
